32. The Importance of Getting the Whole Story Before Moving to Panama
The Importance of Getting the Whole Story Before Moving to Panama
The good, the not-so-good, and everything in between. Why the optimistic sources won't serve you—and where to find honest, unfiltered answers.
Moving to Panama is a BIG deal, an adventure that's both thrilling and challenging. It's key to understand the full picture, including the good, the not-so-good, and everything in between, before taking the leap.
Panama offers a wealth of opportunities and an incredible lifestyle for many expats, but it's crucial to know what you're getting into before you arrive so you can make the most educated decisions possible. You'll want to have a solid grasp on the bureaucratic process of getting your residency, the true cost of living here, and the challenges you might face adjusting to the local culture.
Too often, newcomers rely on overly optimistic sources that paint an incomplete picture (usually because they will benefit in some way from your decision to move here). The reality is that Panama, like any country, has its own set of challenges. By seeking out the whole story—including the parts that aren't as glamorous—you can better prepare yourself and set realistic expectations for your new life.
Panama Expats: Panama Unfiltered
I recently started a new Facebook group: Panama Expats: Panama Unfiltered
The idea came from the disappointment of seeing all the censored discussions and filtered recommendations in other groups. (I actually got booted from a group because I recommended my awesome insurance guy who wasn't paying the group's founders money for this privilege! You can read a bit about that here.)
In my group, honest conversations are encouraged. I have no agenda and accept no money from anyone. Transparency and open dialogue are the only currency! You can ask anything and engage in uncensored, honest discussions about life, travel and moving to Panama.
Whether you're considering moving to Panama, already an expat, or simply curious about life or travel in Panama, this group is for you. Ask your questions, share your experiences, and get real answers. No topic is off-limits, as long as it's respectful!
If you're reading this, you're very likely already a member. But, if you're not, click here to join the group!
