PLACES TO STAY: Hotel Playa Cambutal, A Quiet Retreat by the Ocean
Cambutal is one of those places that feels like a secret—tucked away at the end of the road, where the jungle meets the Pacific. And if you're looking for a peaceful stay with everything you need right at your fingertips, Hotel Playa Cambutal is a solid choice.
This quaint hotel is located right at the very beginning of the main part of town, so you’re close to everything, but still far enough away to enjoy some quiet.
The Stay: Ocean Views & Convenience
Two of my favorite things about staying here are the beachfront location and the onsite restaurant.
Right outside your door, a beautiful beach stretches in both directions, perfect for a peaceful walk along the shore. Whether you’re up for a morning stroll with your coffee or a sunset walk to soak in the colors of the sky, it's the perfect place to unwind.
Sometimes, you just don’t want to go anywhere, especially in a laid-back place like Cambutal, and having good food right there made life easy. I could enjoy my coffee in the morning while watching the waves and grab a meal without having to jump in the car or hit the pavement in search of a place to eat.
The hotel itself is simple but well-kept, with a relaxed, beachy feel. It’s not a massive resort, which I appreciate—just a comfortable, welcoming place to stay while soaking up the natural beauty of the area. The rooms are clean and airy, and many have ocean views, which is exactly what you want in Cambutal.
The Icing on the Cake: A Massage Under the Trees
The absolute highlight of my stay was a massage by Mimi under the trees, right on the lawn facing the ocean.
It was one of those experiences that makes you wonder why you don’t treat yourself to things like this more often. The sound of the waves, the ocean breeze, and the shade of the trees made it incredibly peaceful and relaxing.

Exploring Cambutal
If you do feel like venturing out, there’s plenty to do. Surfing, horseback riding and waterfall hikes with the local tour company, or just long walks along the beach—Cambutal is a place where time slows down, and you can actually unwind. And, since the hotel is at the beginning of town, everything is within easy reach, but you still get to enjoy the quieter side of things.

Hotel Playa Cambutal is a hidden gem and the ideal option if you want a low-key, peaceful stay by the beach. I will definitely be back!
