I launched a paid subscription on July 1. Here's why:

The free blog got me started, but it doesn't pay for the actual work—curating quality articles month to month, writing Field Notes from my experiences with my Crocs on the ground, building the archive. I've never taken commission money from anyone like many other sites, so this is how it works now.

For $15/year, subscribers get:
